Doce Pares 77th Anniversary

On the 30th of December 2009, the 77th Doce Pares Founding Anniversary was held at the Doce Pares Mountain Training Zipline at Busay, Cebu.

Doce Pares Grandmasters, Masters and Members attended this special annual event to celebrate the successful years of Doce Pares which began in 1932.

Grandmasters in attendance were: GM Loloy Uy, GM Edring Casio, GM Tonying Patalinghug, GM Cano Canete, GM Tenciong Gutang, GM Ramon Rosada, GM Rodrigo Maranga, GM Nick Elizar, GM Fredo Carin, GM Silvano Maranga, and Master Val Pableo, Master Joe Borces, Master Rudy Rey, Master Albert Sales, Master Bong Canete, Master Ekin Caniga, Master Michael Canete, Master Harry Talledo and Master Gerald Canete.

Doce Pares scholars for 2009-2010 were also praised for their hard work, including their successes in recent tournaments and educational attainments. The scholars are Cesario Perez, Fiona Mendoza, Petrona Marie Lawas, Ailyn Navarro, Jenny Rusiana, Ariel Caparoso, David Camus and Dan Richel Guba.

In return, the Doce Pares scholars thanked the following scholarship sponsors: GM Arnulfo Cuesta (USA), Peter Shannon (Australia), GM Danny Guba (UK), GM Gero Peter (Germany/Italy), Michael Korthals (Germany), Master Nilo Baron (USA), Master Erwin Mosqueda (USA), Master Danny Huertas (Norway), Master Jun Onas (USA), Ermar Alexander (UK), Gregory Booth (USA), Jason Silverman (USA), Master Steve Wolk (USA), GM Tom Sipin (USA) and Bill Lowery (UK).

Doce Pares awardees were also acknowledged: Master Val Pableo as being the Philippine Team Head Coach, Master Joe Borces as the Philippine Team Training Director, and Master Gerald Canete as the Chair of the Organising Council of the 10th WEKAF World Championships. Gerardo Rusiana was awarded Instructor of the year and Master Harry Talledo for his hard work as Executive Director for Academy of Eskrima.

The promotion to 5th degree of two Doce Pares eskrimadors, Gerald Canete and Kelii Sipin was also announced at the event.

The following were cited for their support and success: Miguel Mendoza, Ariel Caparoso, Cesario Perez, Dan Richel Guba, Fiona Mendoza, Petrona Lawas, David Camus, Frank Joseph Borces, Kyle Clifford Apa-ap, Miguel Manguera, Mary Ephraim Arcilla, Steven Atenta and Gerardo Rusiana. Also congratulated were the FAMAS Team from Tacurong City, the San Fernando Team, the Mandaue Stickfighting Team and the Kauswagan Self-Defense Brotherhood.
