| Academy of Eskrima - Batch 2 |
On 8th of January 2010, Friday, Ermar Alexander and Diana Fauner made history as being the first people from Europe to pass the Basic Eskrima course of the Academy of Eskrima, the first and only school of the Filipino martial art registered and accredited by the government of the Republic of the Philippines through Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Academy of Eskrima aims to establish and maintain standards and competencies on the beginnings, history, growth and development of Eskrima (Arnis) in the Philippines as well as in other countries with the support and recognition of the government through TESDA.
Alex and Diana are also the second batch of graduates to ever complete the course, along with three other candidates, Cesario Perez (Philippines) and Engr. Vela Georgiev and Dr. Clare Stainsby (both from Australia).
During the morning, the candidates took the written examination test at the Doce Pares International Headquarters.
In the afternoon, the five candidates took the practical examination test at the Doce Pares Zipline Mountain Training in Busay. The test was attended by TESDA Representative Anne Agbay and by grandmasters GM Nick Elizar (Nicklestick Balintawak), GM Rodrigo Maranga and GM Dr. Silvano Maranga (Maranga Eskrima) who is also the Chairman of the Board of Assessors (TESDA), and former TESDA Regional Director for Region 7 (Central Visayas) and Region 9 (Mindanao).
The testing was also witnessed by Doce Pares Grandmasters SGM Diony Canete, GM Felix Gutang, GM Cano Canete, GM Faustino Patalinghug, GM Joe Borces, GM Edring Casio, GM Alfredo Carin and Master Rudy Rey. Diana was tested by GM Nick Elizar and GM Joe Borces, while Alex was tested by GM Inting Carin and Master Rudy Rey.
The gruelling examination finally finished and after all candidates were tested with their core competencies in the course of Basic Eskrima, it was finally announced that all five candidates passed and are now officially qualified instructors for the Basic Eskrima course for the Academy of Eskrima.
Lots of thanks to Harold Talledo, Gerardo Rusiana, Jun-Jun Bontuyan and Gerald Canete, Academy of Eskrima Executive Director.
