Newsletter - June 2009 Eskrima, also known as Arnis or Kali, is an indigeneous Filipino Martial Art utilising weapons such as sticks (single and double), knife/daggers, espada y daga (sword and dagger), bangkaw (staff), mano-mano (empty hands: kicking and punching), and dumog (grappling) - the Filipino way. It is a complete system by itself. Doce Pares is an assemblage of various styles. Styles that were brought and introduced into the organisation by the founding masters in 1932. To the credit of the leaders of the organisation, these diverse and often contrasting styles and skills were all successfully integrated and passed on to the next generation of Doce Pares adherents. News Dragon Boat Festival, Royal Albert Docks Ermar Alexander's group was invited to perform at the annual London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival at the River Thames which was flocked by thousands of visitors of all nationalities. [See the website for news story...] 111th Philippine Independence Day, Hounslow The team attended the event to promote the Filipino martial art of Eskrima and WEKAF, for it's upcoming tournament towards the end of this year. [See the website for news story...] Mitcham Carnival, Surrey Ermar Alexander's team were invited by the Mitcham Filipino-British Association on their first participation at the Mitcham Carnival which was attended by the diverse community that lived in the area. [See the website for news story...] PG Pow Wow On 4th June 2009, at the Philippine Embassy, the artists from the Young Art Philippines Exhibit 2009 donated a painting, one of their works to our friends, Philippine Generations. Try out to be part of our demo team and help us promote the Filipino Martial Arts.
