| British Team Selection |
Each fight will be viewed by the
‘DOCE PARES BRITISH TEAM SELECTORS’
with a view to eventually selecting the British Team that will face other European Teams in the Doce Pares European Championships in London later in the year.
Adults will be divided into Men and Women and then subsequent weight
categories. Cadets will be mixed sex and divided into weight categories.
The British Team will consist of two fighters per weight category and per event to compete against the best in Europe in the following events:
SAYAW MEN WOMEN CADET categorised by weight
SOLO OLISI MEN WOMEN CADET categorised by weight
DOBLE BASTON MEN WOMEN CADET categorised by weight
BARAW MEN WOMEN
CORTO MEN WOMEN
Selectors will be looking for:
Attacking skills
Defensive skills
Movement in footwork
Fitness
Sportsmanship
No matter how talented a practitioner is if a true Doce Pares brotherhood attitude is not demonstrated then selection to represent Great Britain will not be an option. All practitioners must congratulate their opponent and demonstrate friendship and a good sporting attitude. |
Doce Pares British Championships 2009

This tournament is exclusive to Doce Pares members only.
This championship will be attended by the 'British Team selectors' with a view to selecting those who will represent their country at the European Championships 2009 which will be held in July 2009 in London, UK.
Grandmaster Danny Guba (10th Degree) will be present and take charge of the award ceremony at the end where the new 2009 British Champions will be honoured.
Master Keith James (2nd Degree) of ‘Doce Pares - Bournemouth’ will also be displaying his shop at the event selling an assortment of weapons and equipment as the official supplier for Doce Pares Eskrima in the UK and Europe as appointed by Supreme Grandmaster Diony Canete.
Grandmaster Danny Guba will use this tournament to select the British Doce Pares Team to represent the country in the above events in July at the 1st European Championship 2009 held this year in London.

Rules
Competitors must be Doce Pares practitioners and may enter up to 3 events to allow time for all events to run their course without sacrificing events for certain groups whilst others fight additional categories.
All Judges and Referees must be qualified and certificated. No Judge or Referee will have any connection to the fighters in the ring at the time.
WEKAF-rules are to be followed.
Sayaw
Solo demonstration of form lasting approximately two minutes. Solo olisi, Doble Baton, Espada y Daga styles can all be demonstrated. Music should be provided on either CD or Ipod for the performance by the practitioner.
Single stick sparring
Three rounds with further dead lock rounds of full contact single stick fighting. Full body armour to be used. No thrusting or butting allowed. Demonstrtion of attacking and defensive skills should be demonstrated along with footwork controlling the ring. In the event of a knock-down there should be no follow up strikes on the ground.
- Leg or thigh pads not allowed.
- Only WEKAF-regulated armpads (or similar) are allowed. No plastic pads.
Double stick sparring
Three rounds with further dead lock rounds of full contact double stick fighting. Full body armour to be used. No thrusting or butting allowed. Demonstrtion of attacking and defensive skills should be demonstrated along with footwork controlling the ring. In the event of a knock-down there should be no follow up strikes on the ground. If a practitioner is disarmed of one stick the fight continues with that practitioner using a single stick. In the event of both sticks being disarmed then the fight is over.

Baraw
Inked knives are used by practitioners who will all wear white ‘T’ shirts, goggles and neck protectors (all provided). All blade grips and strikes are allowed. Arms are 5 points each, chest is 10 points a strike to the heart or stomach ends the fight as does a disarm.

Corto
Head gear should be worn other than that no other armour is allowed. No thrusting or butting allowed. Other than this the rules are as per single stick.
Groin protectors for men and chest protectors for women must be worn.
